Has anyone used Kalrez perfloroelastomer before?

Post by vile_fly »

I have discovered a new material that exceeds the temperature rating of teflon. I am unfamiliar with this material and am curious as to the wear characteristics of it in a stirling engine. I am considering this for a hot side alpha engine piston ring.
"Kalrez® o-rings and seals can withstand attack by more than 1,800 chemicals, including many acids and amines that cause other elastomers to fail due to excessive swelling. Even after long-term exposure to temperatures up to 316°C (600°F), Kalrez® retains its elasticity and recovery properties better than other high-temperature elastomers."
This looks promising. Here is a link to the quoted info.

I will take this silence as a flat-out "no". I will have to experiment with this material and give a report on it later.

No, have'nt heard of it, but will be interested in reading your findings, ie., machineability, expansion rate on heating etc., and how much it costs.
