Lamina Flow Stirling Engine wont run consistently

Post by FinFisher »

Hey all,

in the same topic of stirling engines not running, I was curious if anyone has any experience with getting a finnicky thermoacoustic engine to run. Basically, I can sometimes get it going for a minute or two, but it will die out. Then, if i let it cool down for 15-20 min and come back and light the flame again, wait the same amount of time, and try again, the engine wont run. I can't really figure out why the same operating conditions dont lead to the engine running twice.

Am i doing something wrong? My leading theory is that when the engine does run I am letting it heat up to the properly needed temperature. it seems (?) that the brass connector needs to be hot as well as the test tube itself. Any advice would be appreciated! It is a custom engine, but very similar to some sold online (took inspiration)
