Here is a typical 5000 watt generator (IC engine, not Stirling)
There is a lot of strange controversy surrounding the ST-5.
From what I gather, Sunpower or somebody decided the original design incorporated some "intellectual property" that was never allowed out. So it was redesigned to get rid of the proprietary components, for better or worse.
My personal ambition is to build a Stirling generator comparable in weight and size with a similarly rated IC.engine.
I'm interested in the ST-5 in terms of historical accuracy and completeness. It was originally, it seems, quite a powerful workhorse of an engine.
The original intention was for it to be easy to build in areas of the world with limited resources, and for the plans to be made freely available.
