Would a diffuser in a tin can strirling engine be of any value? If so could a wad of steel wool in front of the power piston be used? Some were around here I have a hunk of copper wool. If the purpose of the diffuser is to help disapate heat, wouldn't the copper wool be better?

I am developing a thin layer of stainless scrubber before the exit to power piston now, I think that flow resistance is the most important factor not to slow the movement speed at higher revs. This is why oil and other things can "choke" the cooling area. This is from what I gleaned from the online NASA stirling report. Some folks sell copies but it is online in pdf if you search gfor link.
