Part Sourcing

Post by presentteck »

Sourcing parts at a reasonable price (or at all if they exist) can be a difficult challenge. We should all share what we know in one thread so we can all find just that piece we're looking for. :)

company name, site, product, price... whatever you got.

To start off:

http://www.beckergraphite.com/stock.html
cheapest place i know of to get graphite or carbon rods, 12'' length minimum. 12''x1''dia for just over $8, smaller diameters much cheaper, carbon cheaper as well.

http://www.airpot.com/html/actuator.html
The most beautiful pneumatic actuators i have ever seen... A Graphite piston hollowed for least amount of weight, placed in a Pyrex cylinder. responds to .5 psi
the price is about $50, but if you go to there homepage you can request a free sample, they'll send you the 2k 160P. If you cant attain this level of awesome it is worth every penny!

presenttech, The Air pot cylinder and piston are just about 'the' standard for a great many hot air engines, and you could not do much better, this is top grade stuff, but unfortunately unavailable to me as far as I know.
Old car shock absorbers for steel tube. Vaccuum Cleaner metal extension tube, If you are lucky it will be stainless steel (thin walled), otherwise chrome plated steel. Old VHS vidio recorders, and similar gear, for small bearings, electric motors to make generators to be driven by your engine, LEDs to be lit by your generator. Ian S C
