2nd Stirling actually works

Post by EL34 »

I've been busy using the CNC making a couple Stirling engines.

Engine #1 is not running yet. Need to get more experience on the subject and then get back on it, it's a more complicated engine and I am just learning.

Engine #2 runs on Sterno, just like a Hobo. It's a simple walking beam engine using tin cans for the displacer cylinder.

I needed to see Stirling #2 run badly after putting all that CNC time in one Stirling #1 and have it not running.

You can see more info, bigger photo's and a movie of Stirling #2 running on sterno here.

Here's a link to a 640x480 windows movie of Sterling #2 running on Sterno

I just finished cutting a few new aluminum parts for Stirling #2 on my CNC machine

I also added a coiled copper cooling system to keep the upper displacer cylinder cool.
I put a very small fountain pump in a bucket of water and then send water through the coil.

It runs way better than it did, it will run on a very small flame now.
