manson engine with alternate breathing

In my research on pulse jets, it was shown that when an expanding hot gas is suddenly released from a chamber, the inertia of the gas can cause it

to create a vacuum in the chamber which then sucks in cold air from outside right back through the opening the hot gas just escaped from.
It might be workable to have a manson type engine work like this.

Hot air expands, pushes the piston past the vents, air escapes creating vacuum (or at least low pressure), fresh charge rushes in, piston covers the

vents and compresses the air into the hot chamber so it absorbs heat quickly, restart.

With the one Manson engine I saw, it wasn't powerful. Alpha and beta engines are proven good engines.

The site has links to better ones. One example isn't much to base an opinion on, though Of course I can't say yet if this version will be better than those.

Probably not critical, but it seems to me that this is only going to work well if the engine is already running at a reasonably high speed, so might need a lot of 'assistance' to get started.

Yes, that's true. Would probably be good to have a regenerator mesh lining the heat chamber too.
