Looking for a powerfull horizontal stirling engine model

Post by Wellington »

hello.

I'm looking for the most powerful commercially available stirling engine model of this shape and type:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lth920VUbU

I'm want to build by own barrel shapped alternator as seen in the above video and so I need a stirling engine design which can fit the barrel alternator. I'm looking for an existing design which works very well so I can try to improve apon it rather than spending a year repeating other peoples design mistakes. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Wellington,
I know that this is not what you are looking for but you can build this. It is a good first engine and it will scale up nicely. If you need the space between the bearing supports, just add a copper tube as in the video you posted.

.562" bore, .75" stroke

You can find plans for this engine in "Model Stirling Engines" by Rudy Kouhoupt published by Village Press.

A good alternative can be found in the first volume of "Projects" from the Home Shop Machinist : an engine by Thorn Mayes, 1.125" bore, 1.375" stroke, includes drawings and instructions.
