Re: Disappointing
Trev, "not in our lifetime" proves my point. The range problem with electric is already solved (Chevy Volt, Tesla) for all reasonable use cases. The Chevy Volt has solved it for all use cases. I watched a recent PBS Nova episode about batteries and there is impressive advancement. In a few...

Re: Disappointing
Trev, shouldn't you say *was*? I think there is no on going development in terms of Automotive propulsion in regards to Stirling engines. Let's face it most and development now in automotive is with electric cars. I think Sterling's potential is with cogeneration. I live in a Northern climate, and e...

Re: Pressurization
In an alpha engine is the port only on the hot piston or is it on both the hot and cold piston cylinders? I guess I always assumed that an alpha motor unlike a beta motor, the hot and cold Pistons both make power. But if I extrapolating on what you said, are you suggesting that only the hot piston m...

Is that engine pictured a ringbom design?

toy alpha engine
I saw this engine on ebay, but it sold out too quick. It is stated to be an alpha engine. (It could be but from the picture it is hard to confirm.) It is stated that the generator will produce up to 5 volts. Could the performance be improved (noticeably) with a simple regenerator plumbed into the ru...

Re: Manson engine
Oh, you are quite right.
I meant a phased displacer.
I am wondering if the ports make more power by self adjusting pressures

Re: At Last The Completed Beam Engine Now Complete with Radiator
Very cool. What does the heat exchanger look like in the top of the displacer cylinder? To make it more eco I wonder if you rotated the radiator and ducted the wind (a preheater) into a firebox to burn wood... I bet it would work well. Carbon neutral. Also it would use the exhaust heat to feed fire ...

Ian, why won't the glass and graphite succeed in the hot end?

Re: Designing 4 piston alpha engine.
They sell graphite glass cylinder sets.
Graphite can easily take all the heat.
Very low friction.
Search the forum for reference. Also saw for sale on eBay

Re: Multiple tube Thermal Acoustic engine
What inspired the multitube design?
I thought your tube within a tube design to be very clever. Is there elements here?
I have a flame licker that doesn't run well, thinking of converting it to a thermo acoustic. Is there literature on the tube ratios and such?
