Re: Model LTD max power effort

Just an FYI: A phonon is a "photon" of sound. From phone meaning sound or voice, and quantum mechanical wave particle duality. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonon#:~:text=The%20name%20phonon%20comes%20from,phonons%20give%20rise%20to%20sound. Heat is transferred at the speed of light by...

Re: Lets beat up Carnot

I think, aside from the above considerations, this revised statement: "1 Joule is 1 Newton of force applied to a system/object for a distance of 1 meter. AKA: Energy." Is still not accurate, or not applicable in the context. Torque and Energy are fundamentally different. Simply applying a ...

Re: Lets beat up Carnot

Fool said: "1 Joule is 1 Newton of force used to move an object 1 meter of distance. AKA: Energy." Thanks to Tom. It should read: 1 Joule is 1 Newton of force applied to a system/object for a distance of 1 meter. AKA: Energy. No motion of the system is necessary. ... I'm really not sure a...

Re: Ringbom-Rice conversion?

Some additional ideas and possibilities: I have some used, or more or less "broken" or barely functional model engines kicking around that I have an idea I might be able to convert to phase change "rice" engines. And of course, some cans, mason jars and lots of other stuff I've b...

Re: Model LTD max power effort

To be clear, I've never proposed that radiant transfer has any effect on clear air; in. fact the opposite. I've only said that I think radiant heating of a heater, and radiant cooling of a cooler, that would then conduct heat to/from the working fluid, could be very significant. Apologies for any m...

Re: Model LTD max power effort

Hmm the only mechanical influence here would be the gas velocity moving through the displacer ports that could potentially reach that speed. But with a highly effective chamber, could the gas change temperature fast enough to change molecular speed by a localized mach number? If that makes any sens...

Re: Absurdly simple thermoacoustic-steam "rice" engine – What's going on here?

Generally speaking, pretty much all accounts or theories assume either some kind of "thermoacoustic" process or if a condensation/evaporation cycle is admitted the theory is that the condensation medium acts as a kind of regenerator to absorb heat to cool the working fluid, heat being tran...

Re: Absurdly simple thermoacoustic-steam "rice" engine – What's going on here?

I searched through the thread as well as the whole message board and it seems this is a fairly recent video that was not previously posted, though watching it, I recognize parts I've seen before, so I believe it is a compilation of previous video highlights, put together to make a new video: https:/...

Re: Lets beat up Carnot

... 1 Joule = .74 Ft/Lbs - Now traditionally a Joule is not used to quantify a static force, but that's what the internet says the conversion is, and we will need to measure power as a static force for this example. Perhaps this is where this whole example falls apart, ... There is a kind of segue ...

Re: Lets beat up Carnot

This next part is probably worth a view also https://youtu.be/5T_O6Zt5Xt4?si=rzz70E8TiiXvdR3P The main takeaway being the mass or inertia of the object matters. Another interesting point is the sum of multiple forces (or vectors) either augment or cancel each other. This helps make clear what I was ...

Re: Lets beat up Carnot

This is better: https://youtu.be/cPgjSeDciQ8?si=sb5uhXQLdEv2Mqc7 Clearly, with less friction, the weight would continue traveling right off the table, or with the same 1 Newton of force applied, travel many meters. An object, such as a levitating superconductor on a magnetic track or an object in sp...

1 Joule = 0.737562 Ft-Lbs (Not Ft/Lbs) Round able to 0.74 1 Joule is 1 Newton of force used to move an object 1 meter of distance. AKA: Energy. Torque is in Lbs-Ft (Pounds times Feet), often colloquially spoken: Foot Pounds. Not the same as Energy. Torque is Newtons, or Pounds times a perpendicular...

I'm thinking I'll try making a miniature "rice engine" canister to power one of my small model engines using this small eye dropper bottle:

Re: Lets beat up Carnot

Tom as far as I can find the standard definition of a joule has no time constraint. Just 1 Newton applied to 1kg over a distance of 1 meter. Time may be calculated I assume. Though some sources don't specify 1kg as the subject of the force. I'm not saying that a Joule as a unit of energy is time co...

Re: Lets beat up Carnot

The thing I found interesting is that the heat and or temperature didn't completely disappear during an adiabatic expansion. ??? Go figure? Unfortunately heat must be rejected to complete the cycle. This is the common misconception with these engines. While yes, heat must be rejected to complete th...
