Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

Peter Lynn, is one of the local Canterbury (NZ) experts on hot air engines, and I would follow his suggestions, he's fairly clued up as far as designing and building hot air engines. Ian S C Yes, I contacted him - but it looks he has too much work with kites... HOw old is this lad ?

Vamoose, thanks for pointer - this video is very very good information and explains in detail how stirling function - Although I saw it already it was good for me to see it again... Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

Hi everybody - does sombedoy knows this guy? Peter Lynn He states that displacer is 7mm les in diameter than cylinder - that means tha I need 3.5 mm gap. And regarding displacer length should be 2 times size of displacer diameter - when i look his "LSM 14 STIRLING CYCLE AIR ENGINE" - it do...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

GeofV and others reading this topic, thanks for an indepth explanation, I know I have quite a big volume of air to heat and cool and I am not keen to complicate with overpresure and different media than air. The 10mm gap is far too large to get any real heat transfer to the working gas, which just f...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

zhivko By my calculation you have a heater of 26cm diam which needs to be heated by about the length of the displacer stroke say 15cm, so 26 x Pi x 15 / 10,000 = 0.122 sq mt, 3.5mm gap = 30W/M2/K therefore at 300K, heat transfer into the working gas will be about 1100W. Yes, you are right - I had a...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

GeoffV, thanks for valuable info with the chart provided, but still its not clear if inox wool around displacer would be beneficial to heating cooling proces and how to properly mount it on displacer. I will surely try disconnecting power piston from crank and test manually the movement of power pis...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

Hi Ante, geofv, Ian and all other that are reading this topic, This is my latest geometry, ModifiedVersion.jpeg made by modifing excel sheet attached in previous post. I tried to acknowledge all the pointers you gave me so here is now latest geometry that mainly changes following: stroke ratio is no...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

Ante thanks, I still examining your post, you say: So my opinion is that you need larger stroke ratio to get compression ratio 1.666 or 1 working vs. 1.5 "dead space" because of that I put to you "stirling pistons beta sheet" Is there suppose to me some additional excel file in t...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

To get the diplacer / power piston ratio correct, the simplest way would be to reduce the power stroke, this could be used to give you more room to lengthen the displacer, even if the skirt of the power piston comes quite a good few MM out of the bore, say up to a third of its length. By reducing t...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

If that drawing is to scale, the displacer should be much longer. I don't understand what you mean,"my linkage is rotated 90* (vertical engine). Ian S C "my linkage is rotated 90*" that means that pistons goes up and down not left and right like in zivko engine on pictures. in excel ...

Hi Ante,

I am still getting used to use forum - thanks for PM - I just responded.

And for you last worksheet - now everything is clear and I found worksheet very usefull.

Best regards,
Klemen

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC

OK - I carefully and slowly read all your posts (GeofV, Ian and Ante) under this topic - it seems that my first design is OK - BUT only with small change - I missed the orientation of one of crank arms (L shape) . The correct orientation would give right displacer and working piston movement r...
