Re: My "inventions"

Andrzei, I think Koichi Hirata has plans for the rotary displacer engine for sale on his site, have a look o google, most of his stuff is in both English and Japanese. His motor looks very much like yours, maybe you should get in touch with him, he has a Q &A section in his web site, but I think...

I did'nt think of her being of that sort of age, I was thinking back to when a nephew of mine started making similar sugestions about 20 years ago, when he was 10, at school he was concidered a bit slow, but once in the workshop that was a different matter. He's now a cabenet maker, fitting out luxu...

Re: Joule-Thompson effect cooling

Don't know anything about the Joule - Thompson effect cooling system, could be a bit complicated. With the mist system, do you spray the mist on the cold cylinder, assisted by a fan? One method I saw an artical about(Model Engineer I think). The gas tank was placed in the water tank. The gas tank wh...

Re: Compressed air engine

Sorry Chris, I was thinking of Hot Air motors, but the generator is the bit that may loose you some efficiency, small generators are not as good as bigger ones. I was wondering, is this an air turbine motor, or a piston type, the turbine / vane motor puts out a lot of power from a small unit, it doe...

Re: V-twin compressor pump...

You need the green grit wheel for touching up the carbide tips. Chatter/ vibration is one thing that kills the tips, also if you dig in and stall the lathe you can break off the end of the tool, I think I'v made most of the mistakes posible with the carbide tools, and if there are more mistakes I'll...

Re: Compressed air engine

Hi Chris, for a start your going to need a good bit of power at the crankshaft, because by the time it reaches the wheels via a generator to an electric motor, you might have lost about 50%, could you not use a direct drive, or are you going to run the electric motor off a battery, and use the motor...

Re: V-twin compressor pump...

Hi, what sort of tooling are you using? Carbide or HSS, use the correct speed, feed, and depth of cut, and you should have little trouble. Most of the work is easiest done with HSS tools, and with a little lathe, take things quietly, and sharpen the tools as sharp as you can. If you have carbide tool...

Re: Design Ideas - "Alpha in a stick"

Thats a nice design for a BETA type motor, it could be made with a bore ranging in size from 5/8" /15 mm to 60 mm / 1 1/4 "you just scale it to suit, I like the bell crank system, it gets rid of the two crank crankshaft. Well proportioned air cooling works well, if you want to get fancy, y...

Re: Design Ideas - "Alpha in a stick"

Andrey, what you are proposing is a free piston engine,I'v got a GAMMA type free piston engine(I started with a BETTA), the piston, and displace are supported on springs, the springs take place of a flywheel. On the power piston is a magnet (from a microwave oven) this passes through a coil, an acts...

Re: can Lamina flow engine work as a big engine

Took a while to load the vidio on dail up, but worth it, I think this is the way that hot air engines should go, cheap as possible, and giving as much power as possible, keep it simple. Ian S C

Re: The new member with first engine

Work out the volume of the power cylinder ie., area of the diameter X the hight of the open space when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke, then do the same with the displacer, the ratio for a good motor should be1.5: 1, the displacer being the larger, you could go to 2: 1, as you are restrict...

Re: pointers on pressurization - alpha engine.

Sam, I suspect that although more of the gas is heated, there is a possibility that the actual temperature may not need to be quite so high. With my ALPHA motor the hot cap on the hot piston is fairly long(could'nt find what length it should be), its about 60 mm long I think, its blue just over half...

Re: My opinion to develop the forum.

I imagine the information would be somthing like a thread of a few months ago on friction of different materials. Another one could be on heat conduction. Or maybe where to find suitable materials to build motors, with all the recycling going on, its getting harder to find stuff, we used to have a l...

Re: pointers on pressurization - alpha engine.

With the motors I have with stainless steel displacer cylinders, I run them at a dull to medium red heat, and motors with mild steel cylinders I try to keep them below red. On my larger Beta motor (48 mm bore) I used a large fresnel lens, and found that the performance improved over the gas that the...
