Re: Pressure and temperature measurements

Hi
Im very interested.
How did you measure? In practical I mean, instruments, pressure connections ....
The indication of more Contraction force than Expansion force
confirms the subjective "feeling",I have from experiments.

Re: Troubleshooting my tin can Stirling

Hi
I didnt see this at first, but
The heatchamber-can and watercooling-can should be closer to the powerpiston.
See org.plans.

Re: 100 LB Propane Tank as Main Displacer "Open Source"

Hi Just some toughts. I would love to see a walking beam this size. The volumen of the displacer will be around 130 times the org. Stroke about 40cm. Walking beam lenght: 3meter? Height of frame ??? WOW! Power cyl. and piston will be large, following the org. proportions. But whats wrong with large ?...

Re: De-burring 3/32" brass tube

Hi
Have you tried with a drill,a bit oversize? 2.5-3mm.
Finish with a 3/32" drill.
Works for me!

Re: Building a small Stirling Engine

Hi Are you building a walking beam stirling? With the heights of these cans you would need a stroke at 85mm.! Mayby this will be usefull. Some (roughly calculated) data for The Walking beam: cyl./displacer ratio 100/33 % ( VOLUME/DISPLACEMENT) heigth of displacer 2/3 of height of cyl. 2-3mm clearanc...

Re: Help with aluminum piston

Hi
Alu-piston is ok as long as your cyl. material is harder and about the same expansion cooff.
I have good experience with alu. piston and brass cyl. Running without lubrication.

Re: Stirling or Steam Engines for power Generation on Mars?

Hi Finally some sence! Thanks theropod2 for staighten this out. Nice to see some one who actually examens issues before commentating. I was a bit confused, not by the POLL question but from some of the replyes. Any type of stirling (alfa, beta, gamma) will work as long as there is outside pressure for ...

Re: need help to get engine running

Hi
Looks like your right from the pics.180 degrees ?
No more guessing, timing should be 90 degrees.
Hint:Power piston in top, diplacer in middle pos.
Power piston in bottum, diplacer in middle pos.

Hi

Just found an easy and cheap way to measure rpm.
Get a bike speedometer + a second magnet.
Mount the magnets and sensor.
Set the wheel diameter to 833.
Set it to show Km/h.
Reading: 10.5 Km/h =105 rpm
14.8 Km/h =148 rpm .........

Re: Stirling Engine Thermodynamics

Hi To whom it may concern,a little comment. As i understand termodynamic; Heat alone does NOT do any work! (heat really dont have any meaning without anything to warm up/cool down.) It needs a medium to convert the POTENTIAL energi (from the heat/cold) to motion. The medium transfer the POTENTIAL en...

Re: My first stirling project. Is everything ok?

Hi Looks like a nice setup. If its oriented like the drawing, you will have to heat it from above! How ? If its lying down you have to compensate for more mecanical resistence from piston;you will need more heat. When the power piston is vertical,it can be aligned to allmost float in the cyl. This is ...

Hi Maybe i got it wrong! ? To me the stirling is a double-acting engine. A double-acting steam engine press the piston both back and forth. On the stirling its a "press and suck" action, thereby double-acting ! The piston dosnt care if its pushed or sucked ! It moves! No matter if its athmo...
