Re: My Next Stirling Model

Hawke, On the thermosyphon, the more surface area you have , the more it cools. By just blowing air around a big can this exposes very little surface area compared to volume of can. If you cut the middle out of the big can and replaced it with copper pipes running from the top can to the lower can ,...

Re: power for using an alternator for battery charging?

Hawke, I really like that first video you posted. It is really compact and does what I want , produce light with medium flame. My plan is to use one of those penny can alcohol stoves. Iam going to use a lamp mantle over the flame to produce even more light. You have to use special mantles I ordered....

Re: power for using an alternator for battery charging?

theropod2, Is this what you would use with a small(12 in. stator), three phase axil flux alternator? Ian SC, I have just made a simple bedini motor long ago. I had no testing equipment ,so had no idea if it was efficient. You can get caught up with the claims on U-tube. I never fell for the overunit...

What if you used a bedini motor generator to charge your batteries. He is using it as a motor here ,but if you powered it with a stirling engine, and used it as a generator. He said it works better at lower power. That would also be lower rpms I assume.

Re: Philips MP1002CA Stirling Engine

Ian SC,
So if it uses 200psi Air , should you pump it up to that pressure before starting it?

They use heat pipes and small stirling engines to cool computers.

Re: Philips MP1002CA Stirling Engine

Didn't the Philips engine use pressurized helium or hydrogen as the working gas ? That must be gone by now? What do you do just run atmospheric ?

Re: power for using an alternator for battery charging?

theropod2, Arent LEDs more efficient? Iam trying to get as much light as possible. A little circuitry and super cap are ok. You have probably seen the U-tube videos where they use an earth battery=1volt to light up a string of LEDs. They use a joule thief and capacitor. Can I use the axil alternator...

Re: power for using an alternator for battery charging?

This would only be for lighting. So you want to use an axial flux alternator. The little bit of reading I have done recommends using a 3 phase alternator and a3 phase rectifier? It said for low rpms so 350 to 500 rpm is ok? To get the most light ,would I use LED or fluorescenct? Dc or AC? Anything e...

Re: Water Cooling Designs

Hawke,
You mentioned you might have displacer problems. What I eventually did was go to the beta design just for that reason. When you have a diaphragm as you power piston ,it is really easy to remove it to change displacers. Or just experiment.

Re: what cycle does this engine use?

Bladeattila,
The mason engine almost died in obscurity. There isn't much on it , other than what you have posted. Its just so elegant in its simplicity. A good working model will be a lot more complex but that will be interesting also.

Vamoose , I love your stirling engine jokes. Some more than others. I thought the one about gases was hilarious. I wish people would post more funny pics and videos. What other engine can you make out of balloons, pop can ,coat hangers or a scrap wood pile? Maybe we need Redbull to sponsor the funni...

Actually a friction heater would be the best way to go. Really simple. Turbine turns the friction generator to heat water.

Re: vawt stirling heater

The vapor compression cycle would probably be the way to go. Maybe use an old refrigeration unit that had a burn out electric motor and hook the vawt up to it. But almost everyone here has a stirling engine. Not much to make a wind turbine.
