So NiCd batteries are in a stainless cup?
So to be safe, one must drain the battery?
What happens if one tries to burn the other parts out by tossing them into a campfire?

Re: Stirling engines with an internal spring question
Alfista, I just looked at YouTube. Neat gamma engine I saw. Big question, I saw you are able to generate over 12 volts but what about amps? A simple way to test for that is to hook your set up to another motor to act as a load. And then using two multimeters check for voltage as well as amps. Presto...

Re: Open crank horizontal engine conversion to Stirling cycle.
I think a horizontal cylinder has too much friction imho.

Re: small wood gassifier generator
Crankshaft is parts you don't need. Use a 90 degree split engine on the same pin on a flywheel.

Re: small wood gassifier generator
Btw, that Japanese Ross alpha toy that I posted about produces 1 watt of power enough for usb. That's approximately 0.5 inch bore, so an one inch bore may generate 4 watts. The airpel graphite cylinders are 1 inch bore. For a drive train there is a $65 usd toy model off eBay, use the flywheel as the...

What about a wind turbine?
An off grid wood stove CHP is technically possible but it never took off commercially.

Re: Heinrich Motor hot air engine
Flywheels are needed to supply energy for the complete rotation especially under load. For no load, I doubt the engine requires both flywheels. I recommend just trying to get it running as is. Oil everything with marvel mystery oil and hook up the higher port to a garden hose and heat it up and see ...

Re: Heinrich Motor hot air engine
Wilson, have you tried running it? You'll want to use a light oil - sewing machine oil. Typically those engines have two flywheels. Hopefully, yours doesn't require it. From what I've read a Bunsen burner should be enough to make it go. To get more power try ice water for the coolant. That could hel...

Re: Heinrich Motor hot air engine
Ian, of course I want a full size vintage hor air engine!
I like to go to old tractor and steam shows.
I have yet to see a full size water pumping hot air engine in the last 30 years. Very rare in these parts.
I do remember my father showing me one at a show when I was young. It's a vague memory.

Stirling powered toy car
I got a Meccano kit and made a toy Stirling car.
I was going to use gear reduction but I read gears rob power with friction. The rubber band drive has a nice feature as acting like a clutch as they stretch and spring back.

Re: What a difference a flue makes! +75%
Ian, from your alpha how many watts of electrical power are you able to generate?
What's the bore and stroke?
And it looks like you built it to be pressurized. How much does that increase the power by which pressure?

Re: What a difference a flue makes! +75%
A guy is selling these things on eBay. It was a long wait to convince my wife. But I finally got the Japanese Ross linkage engine. I'm very impressed with the power. It produces enough electricity to run a 6 volt motor with 100 milliamps on 90 pct alcohol. Probably the most powerful of my stirling e...

Very clever Siemens style 8 cylinder engine
The cleverness of a Siemens engine is that uses the same bore twice which is more efficient. In https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsD8aI6nPV0 instead of a wobble plate, he uses 8 gears arranged in an octagon. Jump to 4:48 to see gears. How does this compare to a wobble plate design? A four cylinder co...

Looks like a Duplex brand beta-type Stirling
Perhaps a Chinese brand? I wonder if they were made in large quantities?
