Re: Isothermal Heat Transfer
... Somewhere someone made the claim that Stirling Engine expansion is "more adiabatic". I think that is misleading. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stirling_cycle&wprov=rarw1 "This article is about the adiabatic Stirling cycle. " Very misleading. Without heat g...

... 0k is only an advantage when a heat engine needs a heat sink which is what Tom is trying to circumvent. .... Not to be overly picayune, but I guess I'm overly sensitive about mischaracterizations. Anyway, again, I'm not "trying to circumvent" anything. Just trying to determine the fac...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)
I mean, this engine is ALL acrylic. Sides top, power cylinder, everything but the bottom hot heat input plate. It is sitting on a 100 Watt ceramic heating element. With all that heat, potentially going in at the bottom and nowhere else to go, the engine is running like a bat out of hell and just kep...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)
So next cycle. Again add heat at 400°K but if heat is not "rejected" our ∆T quickly diminishes. We have a bottleneck. After a few rotations the ∆T should get completely washed out. Well, what if ∆T doesn't matter? Suppose by "upgrading" the quality of Qcz DQh is less diluted? Sup...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)
Well, so far at least, the way I look at it is Qcz is like a reserve tank of gas that I don't have a key to unlock so can never use (so far as is generally recognized anyway) DQh however is high grade fuel put in at 400°K So there is this 4:3 ratio 300°K to 400°K I've supplied fresh fuel of the high...

I think I figured it out finally: Compress_20240421_122627_7772.jpg Drawing out a picture of the two "ratios" described, and adhering to the Carnot theory. The little rectangle in the upper left of the bottom right rectangle is the "work" or maximum heat input that can be convert...

In regard to gas "contracting" at low temperatures, there is a very interesting description of air liquefaction: Compress_20240421_034139_9784.jpg Compress_20240421_034140_0149.jpg What's most interesting is the statement in the second clip, how once enough cold is established, compressing...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)
You still pay the penalty of lugging around the extra weight of fuel. Cars are more efficient on the bottom 1/4 of a fuel tank, because the extra weight is missing. In a car fuel weight is not a big percentage of car weight. You won't see a big savings. It may not be worth the risk of running out, ...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)
Analogies or thought experiments are a dime a dozen. Which analogy comes closest to describing reality is the question. Ultimately resolved by observation/experimental outcome. I like to think of the car analogy as having a full tank of fuel and only burning the top 1/4 part of the tank, then refill...
