I use the ends of tin cans with an electrical terminal connector epoxied in the centre. Works well and can
be easily fitted/removed.

Re: New Walking Beam Pop Can Stirling Engine
Is the displacer cylinder in this engine made out of two separate drinks cans separated by the wood?
Nice engine, it's inspired me to build one.

Here you go :
Height excluding (ring-pull) : 115mm
Diameter : 66 mm
Between base of can and the bevel : 100mm
Diameter of the top: 54mm

Cutting test tubes
Does anyone have any good methods for cutting test tubes ? I want to attempt to cast epoxy-graphite pistons in the test
tubes, but how can I cut the glass tube down to a usable size ?

Re: my first ltd stirling engine help required
Despite the fact that you can get some pressure in there, there could still be an air leak. The pressure changes
when the engine is running normally a quite slow, so the small air leaks have a bigger effect.
Also are the cranks offset at the correct angle ?

Re: walking beam engine does not run
I always disconnect the displacer and move it by hand. You can then feel/see the movement on the power piston. If there's non, there must be a big air leak somewhere.

British gas were supposed to working with whisper gen to offer the whispergen micro CHP to us UK consumers, but I think the deal fell
through. At least, I haven't heard anything about it since about 2007.

Re: Stirling University Project - Phase angle question
I think he means the angle between the displacer crank and the power crank, usually 90 degrees.
As for explaining it, I have no idea sorry. Anti equilibrium angle perhaps ? ?

Re: Condensation in LTD Stirling
Well, it does go away if you dry the engine out with the diaphragm, but it returns after a few runs. The engine drawing moist air from the cup of hot water seems like the most probable explanation since I only power if off hot water.. Or I could use some tiny silica packs under the diaphragm ? Time ...

Condensation in LTD Stirling
All of my LTD Stirlings seem to suffer from condensation inside of the displacer cylinder, has anybody else had this problem, if so, how
did you stop it ? It doesn't seem to affect the engines performance though, but it doesn't look nice!

Re: V-twin compressor pump...
Try removing the seals off the bearings. This can have a big impact on some bearings, especially rubber sealed ones.
(no use for long term use though!)
