Re: Tesla's Heat Engine
As some here may be aware I've previously posted about the possibility of a heat engine running on ambient heat. Tesla worked on building such an engine........ . Take a look at Robert murray smiths video on youtube about a solid state stirling engine. might be of interest to you. https://www.youtu...

Looking for a powerfull horizontal stirling engine model
hello. I'm looking for the most powerful commercially available stirling engine model of this shape and type: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lth920VUbU I'm want to build by own barrel shapped alternator as seen in the above video and so I need a stirling engine design which can fit the barrel alte...

How do i make a linkage like this:
This stirling engine has a link in the middle of the piston rod that allows the rod to connect to the crank shaft without bending. how can I make this kind of connection? Unfortunately the vid does not show the engines link at rest.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lth920VUbU Any suggestions? Welli...

Re: the problem with multiple cylinders and choosing a generator
How does building one large engine compare to building a multi cylinder engine? What are the pros and cons of each if your goal is power production? With regards to the generator, I know that you are toying with the idea of an axial flux alternator. This should work very well, it can be derated by ...

Re: Stirling reverse cooling question
Simple, attach a motor to the crankshaft of the Stirling Engine, and rotate it in the normal direction, at the (normal) cold end you need good cooling as this end gets quite hot. When I first built my Ross Yoke ALPHA motor, I drove that with a BETA motor of similar power out put, and after about 20...

Re: One Big Engine Vs Multi Cylinder Question
You have to match the alternator to your motor, you can only get out what you put in minus inefficiencys, so if your motor was able to develop 10 Watts, with a good small alternator you might expect 5 Watts of electrical power. Generators/alternators increase in efficiency as they get bigger, and r...

I had thought of this myself and have considered putting a layer of fire cement on the hot end of the displacer with a thin alum disc embedded in it to reflect some of the radiant heat.

Re: One Big Engine Vs Multi Cylinder Question
The old engines were generally single cylinder with a large bore, often 10" 12" diameter and more, but my idea is a multi cylinder small bores, reason (my idea) it's easier to heat the air in the smaller cylinder, also the smaller motor will run at higher speed, the big old machines often...

Thanks Ian, You should write a book on stirlings as a complete laymans guide is much needed. Thaks again

Re: Choosing a DC Motor Question
A phone would take (if it's like mine) .55W, at 4.75V, so 12V, 5W will charge about 10 phones after you sort the voltage out. With a couple of extra volts, and 5W, you could charge a car battery, that's about the same as the normal DIY battery charger. Most phones etc have Lithium batteries these d...
