Re: 2 KWh LTD Stirling Engine
I have built a ltd solar engine with a 4 1/2 cu. inch displacer and a 2" dia. power piston. The best power I have attained so far is 1.7 volts pulling an old car fan motor. this is at 440 degrees f. hot and 180 degrees cold.

Re: generators
Ian that looks like it would do the job. Do you have any idea of the effeciency of it. Where would I get a brushless about 1/4 that size?

Re: oil
I was using singer sewing machine oil but switched to this. Its a lighter oil than Singer and seems slicker. I think its a synthetic. Doesn"t last forever. The inside of my power piston looks like a worn out washboard(exaggeration). Its an old pneumatic cylinder which you would think would be sm...

oil
Has anybody using oil in their engines tried Lucas gun oil? It doesn"t burn off like most oil.

Re: generators
thx. Ian. Are any of your generators brushless and do you get more output from a brushless?

generators
What would be the best generator for a heat engine that runs at about 300 rpms. It has a 2" power cylinder. I currently use an old 18 volt drill motor. The best I get is about 1.2 volts

Re: directional air flow
Preliminary observation is that the directional air flow does work. Don't know yet if its better comparatively. I measured the temperatures of the piping going into the power piston from the hot end of the displacer and the temperature of the cold end of the displacer and the temperature at the powe...

Re: dwell on displacer
Thx for the thread vamoose on variable phasing. My displacer crank can be adjusted by hand and like Ian I didn't see much dif. between 85 and 105 degrees. But that was static timing. I thought with the dwell a larger throw on the crank would be required but because it slings the displacer piston out...

Re: directional air flow
Thanks for the reference Bumpkin. At least if it doesn't work I'm in good company.

Re: directional air flow
Clarification... The top port will open at tdc of the power piston and the bottom port will open at bottom of stroke of the power piston since the displacer is 90 degrees ahead.

directional air flow
I am working on a new displacer. What does the group think of directional air flow? My displacer is flanged in the middle to isolate hot end from cold end. I have a port in the middle of the top and the middle of the bottom. The displacer is ridged under the ports for a loose slip. The top port will ...

Re: dwell on displacer
I probably should have said upfront that my engine runs at less than 300 rpm's. I wouldn't try slotting the yoke on anything running much faster. By the way I run my engine off a heat lamp.

Re: dwell on displacer
Thx for the replies. I still haven't had time to look up a scotch yoke but I will. I merely slotted the yoke at the middle of the displacer shaft. Bad part is the noise but its interesting how the displacer is slung out and in really making the travel time on the displacer minimal. And minimal is go...

Re: My 18cc Alpha Stirling Engine
Plani, really really nice engine. But I guess I don't understand your displacer cylinder. Looking at the cutout dwg. the piston appears to be very thin. I thought the displacer piston should be almost half the length of the displacer.
