Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!

The cranks and crank pins are connected to each other by threads...However this is not a good method as it will be loosen up when I turn the flywheel...

Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!

Hi Ian, really sorry for the late late reply..did not realized until now...basically I have done my beta stirling fabrication...however the engine is not working. I suspect that it is because my solar collector is not able to focus the sunlight to the hot cap. Besides, I also feel that my power pist...

How to seal a beta type engine? Need help!

Hi everyone, I'm currently doing a project where I need to fabricate a beta type stirling engine with the power piston diameter of 20mm and length of 12mm. The power piston has a 4mm hole at the center that allows the displacer rod(4mm) to pass through it. Do anyone of you know the methods to seal t...

Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!

Hi Ian, I have changed my power piston stroke to 16mm so that I have a shorter displacer stroke which is 30mm. The first thing I want to do is to make sure the engine can be run and hopefully it will do so. If I have time I will try to play around with the engine configuration for improvement work. ...

Re: BETA Stirling Engine Design!

Hi guys, thanks for the information. I have actually done the the engine design on CAD drawing and it looks good. After I have assemble all the parts I found out the design of displacer connecting and CS rods were too long. So, I have make them to into shorter one instead and now I can play with the...

Re: BETA Stirling Engine Design!

Hi Flash!
Thanks for your reply! What if I'm going to design a beta engine with only cooling fins without the regenerator? Is it allowable to have a overlap stroke? I saw some articles from internet actually stated that there might be an overlapping of strokes in beta engine.

Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!

Hi Ian! The reason I make the displacer stroke to be 40mm is because is has a smaller diameter than power piston diameter. I have a 20mm diameter piston with 20mm stroke will displace 6283 millimeter cube of air. If the swept volume ratio is 1:1.5, the displacer needs to displace 9424 millimeter cub...

Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!

Hi Ian! I have decided to fabricate my beta engine with the parameters as stated below: Cylinder ID=20mm Hot cylinder length=81mm Cold cylinder length(fins length)=56mm Displacer piston diameter=18mm Displacer piston length=54mm Displacer piston stroke=40mm Power piston diameter=20mm Power piston le...

Re: BETA Stirling Engine Design!

Hi Ian! It is possible the displacer is overlapping with power piston stroke? I have read some articles that says both pistons might overlap their stroke and create an effective working space. Are both displacer and power piston allowed to overlap or they should not overlap each others at all. If ye...

Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!

Hi Ian! Can u explain how the displacer piston rod is support in BETA engine as the connecting rod pass through the power piston? I understand one end of the displacer connecting rod is connected to the crankshaft and the other end is connected to the displacer piston, but what is supporting the rod...

Re: BETA Stirling Engine Design!

Hi Ian, I would like to ask how do you define the length of displacer chamber, power cylinder, length of heater chamber and length of cooler in BETA engine since it only consists a single cylinder? I really wish to know this. Thanks!

BETA Stirling Engine Design!

Hello everyone, I think most of you guys heard about the design rule for GAMMA stirling engine as stated below. i. length of displacer chamber L = 3 times its diameter. ii. length of heater chamber = 2/3L iii. length of cooler = 1/3L iv. swept volume of displacer = 1.5 times swept volume of piston c...

Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!

Thanks for the great info Ian! One more question I wish to know is did the displacer piston passing through the fins cylinder part in BETA type engine when it is displaced to its lowest position? Also did the power piston passing through the hot cap cylinder part when it reaches its highest point?

Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!

Thanks a lot for the useful information Ian! Can you explain on how the hot cap is connect to the cylinder? Also how to seal the power piston as the design for beta stirling engine requires the displace connecting rod to pass through the power piston. Besides, which type of strokes is more preferabl...
