Re: MYPOWER Stirling Generator !

Is the patent available somewhere on the internet, this is a great prospect and we are starved for information, particularly in english. Would love to see this develop into what you are hoping for it.

Re: MYPOWER Stirling Generator !

Yes, a video of it running and some lab meters showing even a modest output would go a long way to sparking interest in funding your startup and creating orders. I was just saying the other day "why doesn't [something like this] exist?"

Re: 1kw engine plans

Found that book on amazon for $500, but my local librarian is trying to get a copy transferred to borrow from the milwaukee public library! I like the sleek looks of the linkage of the dual displacer gamma in the video, looks like very little friction involved.

Re: 1kw engine plans

Georgeous engine and thank you for taking the time to help. I like what you are saying about the gamma design, I will have to gear my searching in that direction and try to come up with my next round of nagging questions. I have been stuck on alpha's and the simple offset crank this whole time so no...

1kw engine plans

It appears my idea to turn a V8 ICE into a Stirling is just a disappointment waiting to happen, the work involved in trying to make it approach adequate could be better spent making something purpose built that actually works. Now that I have skimmed the NASA article and read Andy Ross' book "M...

Re: Regenerator material option

I would bet the thickness of the material they use for the catalytic converter honeycomb was many times thikcer than .002. It would probably breathe well though.

Re: v8 Alpha stirling generator concept

Read Andy Ross book today and can see that with the precision involved in extracting power from these designs I am as you probably barin up the wrong tree. Thinking now of either an LTD design, with a ~2 ft diameter and probably a 4-500 degree f differential or a flame eater v8 sucking the 1000-2000...

Re: v8 Alpha stirling generator concept

Thanks guys, will have a read and come back surely with more questions. Thinking now that a large diameter stirling that sits on top of the 55 gallon drum lid that is part of the furnace might be a better way to go. The lid gets hot enough to fry an egg almost instantly and has lots of surface area ...

Re: v8 Alpha stirling generator concept

After more reading and use of the search button I am seeing what you are saying is the issue at hand, surface area and ability of the heat exchangers to get the heat rapidly into the working fluid as well as the ability for it to pull it out rapidly on the cold side... Ok, so I guess I am starting t...

Re: v8 Alpha stirling generator concept

I just estimated in my head that from an engine this size that it would be neat to get it to make 1000w, I dont need that much power specifically, it just happens that is about the max I figure I could probably squeeze out of the alternator that comes with a used engine. I guess my real goal would b...

Re: v8 Alpha stirling generator concept

I have options for 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L (the LS family of GM truck engines) the 4.8L being the cheapest. It would be easier for me to make one side more or less efficient than to make sleeves and new pistons. For instance I could have longer or shorter piston extensions and exchangers to offset the d...

Re: v8 Alpha stirling generator concept

Thats why I am here, glad for the input and ability to bounce ideas off knowledgeable people before I start putting any money into this project. Don't worry about sounding negative or raining on my parade, better now than when I am 50 hours into this thing and find out I screwed up something simple ...

Re: v8 Alpha stirling generator concept

Also, if there is no crankcase lube, how are you oiling the cylinders? dry metal on dry metal sounds like a friction issue. What should clearances be on something like this?
