Re: Fully Enclosed Dual Action Design Idea

Thanks! I'm working on the bagel engine for the next week or two, not a lot of free time atm. Once it's running, I'll be attempting a prototype from either large soda cans or SS water bottles. Will post details once I get started.

Re: Kick-Back Displacer Concept

Thanks for the input. I'm hoping it could actually give a bit of a performance increase due to the diaphragm expansion, but if it helps in some other way, that will be a welcome bonus.

Too many projects to build it now, but it's on my list.

Re: LTD Power by Bagel

Spent the day trying various bottle cutting techniques. Tried the flaming string, score then inner tapping, score then hot/cold water, score then candle/ice. Of course, the last method I tried, score then candle/ice, gave the best results. To anyone else trying to cut bottles, save yourself some tim...

Re: BALLISTIC CONDUCTION, Nanostructures and Stirling Engine

I hope I'm wrong here, but I think the use of nano-tubes as a metal treatment is a bit beyond a home machinist at this point in time. That being said, I definitely look forward to being able to make use of their thermal properties at some time in the hopefully not too distant future. I know there ar...

Re: Fully Enclosed Dual Action Design Idea

Thanks Ian, I didn't realize airpots were so robust. I plan on building a test model with diplacer cylinders about the size of large soda cans. I'm sure an airpot will be fine for it. If the small test model shows potential, then I will look into scaling up, including pressurization. I don't think I...

Re: Generator Idea

Short answer, yes. Long answer, a car's alternator is probably not the best choice. You need a generator designed to run with the least amount of friction, and a car's alternator is not designed with low friction in mind. A generator will create a load via the magnetic induction. Put this load toget...

Re: LTD Power by Bagel

Looking up the thermal conductivity of the SS thickness I have, I don't want to use it as the hot cap, so I'm going to use aluminum. Any suggestions on a good mating gasket material to prevent galvanic corrosion between the SS and aluminum?

Re: LTD Power by Bagel

Here's a couple more pics of the parts I'm scrounging up. I'm attempting to use recycled materials, with the exception of the airpot power piston and cylinder. Stainless steel top from an old scale we used in the bakery. Will be cut down and folded to create the top, bottom, and back sides of the ba...

Re: LTD Power by Bagel

Thanks for the heads up Junkie. Yeah, it does have batteries for constant on, but the generator does work, I removed the batteries and applied a jumper to be sure. Came home today to find my Airpot actuator arrived. Gotta say, the folks at Airpot know what they are doing, remarkably well engineered!...

Re: LTD Power by Bagel

Funny thing is, the circuit will be the least of my worries. I found one of those hand crank flashlights at the dollar store today, it lights up two blue LEDs with a squeeze of a cam which activates a spinning magnet. I can work from it's circuit design to get working lights from very little current...

Re: Fully Enclosed Dual Action Design Idea

Thanks for your thoughts! I believe we are saying the same thing differently. As you can see in the animation, there is only one power piston (a diaphragm in this model), and it is being worked on by both displacers which have seperate air spaces. When one displacer is at the cold end, it's air-mass...

Kick-Back Displacer Concept

Has anyone tried something like this: http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff362/JerryScript/power-displacer-stirling.gif I threw this animation together rather quickly, so the conrod doesn't connect properly, but it shows the concept. The idea is to have the displacer bottom out about 15 degrees bef...

Fully Enclosed Dual Action Design Idea

Would appreciate some feedback on this idea. Dual displacers offset 180 degrees, both working on the same power piston, with all linkage and the flywheel sealed for zero air leakage. This mockup shows alot of dead-air-space around the flywheel and linkage, but most of that space will be filled in th...

Re: LTD Power by Bagel

Thanks for the tip on bending acrylic, never tried that before. I tried cutting a bottle with a dremel yesterday. First cut went well (cutting, hot/cold water, cleaning up with grinder). Second cut, as soon as I poured on the hot water it sent stress fractures three directions. I did the cuts with t...
