Re: Ringbom-Rice conversion?

I found a section of left over PVC pipe that happened to be the same diameter as the flask, so I cut a 1" section and glued it on with epoxy. Instead of using the spout I decided to just drill a hole in the PVC and installed a small steam bleeder valve such as used on old cast iron radiators, j...

Re: Ringbom-Rice conversion?

To try to overcome the problems I had with the glass engine; (the spout got in the way of securing down the diaphragm, lack of a lip on the rim allowed the diaphragm to slip off too easily, and no easy way to let out excess steam through a glass beaker, other than putting holes in the diaphragm.) I ...

Re: Ringbom-Rice conversion?

Another rather strange and/or unexpected result is that when I'm lifting up the diaphragm, pulling upward, I can feel the "vacuum" inside the engine pulling back, or atmospheric pressure pushing down. So the water begins boiling vigorously... Normally, with some enclosed container with boi...

Re: Ringbom-Rice conversion?

Another interesting aspect of this apparent water expansion which I unfortunately, did not capture on video, was that the extreme or exaggerated rising and falling of the water line was at first, happening by itself. That is, the water level would go up and up and up and up... At the same time the d...

Re: Ringbom-Rice conversion?

A problem with the clear beaker is it has printed on the side "not for stovetop use". How far I can go with heating water to a "sizzle" before the glass cracks I don't know. When I get a chance I have a few large borosilicate test tubes I've boiled water in over an open flame wit...

Re: Ringbom-Rice conversion?

One of the main reasons I wanted (and still want) to construct a working transparent "rice" engine is, Many times in videos of people running these engines water is injected into a VERY hot engine on a stove, or otherwise pre heated and the water SIZZLES . In experimenting myself I've noti...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

Maxwell`s Demon.png Like the picture, we perhaps always imagine the gas molecule's hurling around, bumping into each other or into walls or piston tops. But then what's in between the molecules' ? ;-) I imagine the container or cylinder is "packed" with molecule`s. They are touching each ...

Re: Ringbom-Rice conversion?

This is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen in a long time. https://youtu.be/KBtv3skwfDw?si=ERtnPAMnkI7nvjuo Copy,/paste from my YouTube description: All the "wet thermoacoustic" or so-called "rice" heat engines I've seen have been made of metal. I wanted to see what was go...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

Tesla recognized heat was energy, but bought into the idea that heat was "compelled" to "flow" into a "cold hole", so likely wasted much of his life trying to create a "cold hole" so he could just sit back and let the heat flow "down", then extract &...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

You could be right about all that. In regard to all of science and especially religion: "The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool." Richard P. Feynman https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everything_You_Know_Is_Wrong I don't know if your the...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

So what happens when heat is added to a gas in a confined space with a moveable wall (piston)? Add enough energy to cause one gas molecules to "jiggle around" more vigorously. This additional "jiggling", since the chamber is sealed, has nowhere to go but may transfer if molecules...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

Hey Fool, don't you think this is a better starting premise...since Carnot refers to compression cycles (tho hasn't been beat by non-compression cycles) how about SIMPLY n=(Wpos-Wneg)/Wpos, therefore when Th=Wpos and Tc=Wneg, then n=(Th-Tc)=Th edit: n=(Th-Tc)/Th Yikes, missed that big time, but you...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

I'm okay with heat being a form of energy passing from hotter to colder. I am not comfortable with internal energy being called heat. Something hotter has a higher temperature and higher internal energy than that same thing at a colder temperature, everything else the same. Sorry it took so long to...

Here you said: https://stirlingengineforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=21109#p21109 I'm okay with heat being a form of energy passing from hotter to colder. I am not comfortable with internal energy being called heat. But you habitually refer to this baseline "internal energy" as "heat added&...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

Anyway back to the analysis. You wrote: ... Let Qcz be the heat added from zero K all the way to Tc. That is true but confusing, so, Qcz is the internal energy of the engine's gas mass at Tc. It is the base energy. It neither used, nor rejected. It is the absolute energy level at Tc contained the th...
