Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

So during the expansion stroke the gas is in contact with Tc? The working fluid is shifted from the hot side to the cold side about 1/2 the way to BDC (between full compression and full expansion), so yes. for the latter mostly adiabatic phase after most of the heat input has been used up (converte...

Re: Alpha stirling engine working principle

I'm sorry you feel that way. How would you like me to feel? Appreciative of your constant badgering, insults, accusations, long rambling posts full of mischaracterizations, strawman arguments and pure nonsense that wastes mine and everyone else's time and fills the forum with rubbish? Thanks for ke...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

... I like Tom too. I fear his patience is wearing thin for reading points that support classic theory, and contradict his. An understatement. "Classic theory" is 100% garbage that should have been taken out to the curb and forgotten at least a century ago. That it's still being advocated...

How does it absorb heat if the compression stroke starts at Tc? ..
Because it is in contact or is put in contact with Th.

Re: Tesla's Ambient Heat Engine revisted

For heat to be removed from the cold end, by the working fluid, it must have an _average_ temperature throughout the cycle, that is below that of the cold end. It's easy to postulate that the working fluid temp might drop below that temp briefly, but I'm really struggling to see how it could be bel...

OK, if you say so.

IMO the timing only "seems" different because of the opposed piston configuration makes it appear different.

The stationary CHP units were for the bases back in the US.
Still in use apparently:

Those are the earlier smaller versions without the cooling system though.

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

Infinia had an earlier version that didn't require cooling. The army wanted a CHP that also produced hot water. Bad idea IMO. This thing is the result. Good at making hot water though Whaaat? The army were intending to cart 15 foot parabolic mirrors around the battlefield to make nice shaving water...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

Nearly all the heat goes straight into the cooling water, but not using cooling water could damage the heat sensitive linear generator. The only option is to put way more heat in faster than the cooling system can take it away. Totally designed around Carnot heat rejection principles where even at ...

If you view that thread you'll see the thing is covered with a slew of thermocouples that happen to be compatible with my reader, so I can get temperature readings easily. coupler4.JPG The cooling water heats up immediately when heat is applied to the receiver. Getting the engine hot enough to start...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

I need to construct engines that actually run and produce practical power. My NASA engine has abysmal thermodynamics. All the heat is transfered straight into the cooling system. You need a 15 foot parabolic dish and full sun, about 6000° concentrated on a point the size of a softball just to get i...

Re: Isothermal Heat Transfer

Tom I'd recommend you spin one of your engines by hand and take note of when the displacer fully exposes the hot plate. I have, probably 1000 times. Of course, you may have a different idea about what constitutes "full exposure". An LTD displacer moving up, off a hot plate has "full ...
