Re: Perpetual Ideas

After reading several articles about Peltier device efficiency and COP, when used as a heat pump, efficiency can be greater than 100% This is because the device is not only moving heat but the applied power is also converted to heat as well. When using it as a heating device, the efficiency will be ...

Re: Perpetual Ideas

After watching this video: https://youtu.be/vsTIWhZ-6HM I've been trying to think how to utilize both the hot and cold side of a Peltier device without having to use two engines. Heat pipes? That might work, but kind of difficult to implement and bound to lose a lot of heat in transport. What if, .....

Re: Tesla's "Ambient Heat Engine" Experiment

I missed some posts I see. With the vacuum cleaner analogy in mind. I'm not proposing to have the motor/pump pull so hard that it creates a cold vacuum because of decompression. What would happen in you plugged the hose of the vacuum cleaner with your hand and leave a small gap. Air rushes in and y...

Re: Tesla's "Ambient Heat Engine" Experiment

In the past I didn't always get what you (Tom) were talking about. But I think I've come to a similar conclusion as you during my recent research. I've been looking into Tesla turbines in great detail and have a configuration in mind that eventually might work as an ambient heat engine. This is goi...

Re: Kontax KS90v thermal experiments

Just thought I would mention, I'm designing a new-ish kind of little butane heat pump to run a Stirling engine. A conventional heat pump is designed for either heating or cooling, but a Stirling engine can utilize both. The problem is, to make cold, a heat pump is designed to "reject" heat...

Re: Heat is never hot or cold. Internal energy can be hot or cold.

... "heat of compression" , a misleading statement. No heat involved. ... Your dissertation does not address Work . Seems to deny a work-heat relationship. "Heat of compression" is a transfer of energy. Work input results in an increase in temperature. Calling that increase in t...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

In fact I'll do it again. ....the most work it can produce is 400 J. This will be when it gets to absolute zero Kelvin. ... Among many other things, your expansion to "absolute zero" is completely unrealistic nonsense. I'm interested in real engines and real engine behavior in the real wo...

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

I also don't think that Tom will ever understand how the differences between a state variable and path variable cancel when put into a ratio , and how they are depicted on a PV diagram. Still he tries to equate, heat a path variable with, internal energy a state variable. He just loses it every tim...

Yes, I get it, but take another look at your Q=.................=U and try to justify how any path function can (ever) equal a state function ??? I said I was wrong. Good catch. I don't think Tom will ever understand how a state variable differs from a path variable. ... LOL... Try looking at the t...

this is Tom's biggest problem, simply mixing state functions PVTUm (etc) with path functions QW (ok, qw properly) to arrive at some wacky conclusions.

You mean my biggest gripe?

Because that is what the "Carnot Limit" calculations do. With the definition of "heat".

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

But I think we've had this conversation before. If you keep adding wood to a fire it doesn't mean wood is not being added or burned if the fire looks the same after three days. What the fire looks like is internal energy. The wood added is heat in. The wood burnt is heat out. As usual you're missin...

Throw a red hot bolt into a cup of water. The water gets hotter. The bolt gets colder. The two reach a common final temperature between the two.

My point is, you have to throw the hot bolt into the water.

The heat doesn't just jump off the bolt and head for the water on its own.

Re: The TRUTH? η = 1 – (Qc / Qh) = 1 – (Tc / Th)

gases have a temperature. Temperature is manifest by kinetic energy. Contained Kinetic energy is stored energy. It is not heat. It is not work. It is called internal energy. A spinning flywheel doesn't have work in it, it has stored kinetic energy, internal energy. Work is just how it got there, or...

Just because you don't understand it, doesn't make it meaningless. Seems like something you've said in the past, about refrigerators. If you want to eliminate squabbling, you probably don't want to enter any discussions. Do you consider a bank balance the same as dollars in? Do you consider a bank ...
